Existing Body Worn devices have not kept up with State-of-the-Art Technologies.
The Dismounted Warfighter (and others) had to carry several separate Sensors, Communications Devices and Visual Displays – each device operated Manually and Independently of each other.
The Wearer had the time and attention consuming burden of Controlling, Monitoring and Interpreting the less comprehensive information from each of these independent devices separately.
Visual Situational Awareness was limited to only having a heavy, externally mounted forward looking camera which was subject to damage and misalignment during altercations or typical rough use.
Awareness of what was Before them, Above them and Behind them was a complex chore at a time when split-second decisions were necessary to determine a course of action during impending threats.
Reaching for a microphone to communicate or diverting attention to interpret an alarm from a sensor interfered with and delayed their readiness, rather than enhance their Situational Awareness to meet their primary objective.
Identification of Friend or Foe and Communication in Foreign Languages was extremely limited.
Lack of Physical and Functional Integration increased the overall size, weight and power required by these independent devices.
